Man files police report after Pro-PAP teacher tried to indoctrinate daughter in school

By Charlie Tang

Should kids be exposed to politics-related content without parental consent?

A close friend of mine is understandably livid. His Primary 4 daughter was shown political videos during class, more precisely blatant propaganda from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP).

This happened without any prior notice on the school's part. Imagine the shock my friend had when his child, upon returning home, told him flat out that he should vote for the ruling party.

Schools are meant to educate, not indoctrinate. Parents deserve to know when political material gets disseminated to their children, especially when such material is partial towards a particular political party.

My friend subsequently reflected the abovementioned incident to the school administration - the teacher in question apologised, while the principal patronizingly remarked the teacher had been “counselled accordingly.” How is that enough? Where’s the accountability? Why wasn’t there complete transparency in the very first place?

I am sharing because I feel grave injustice was done to my friend and, frankly, things shouldn’t be swept under the rug.

Schools must remain politically neutral, no two ways about it.

Our children deserve better.

Our education system ought to do better.

PS: A police report has since been filed.
