A student threw a chair at me during a computer lab session years ago |

Former school teacher Mr Lee Yue Heng recounted an unsavoury episode on social media which transpired years ago during a particular computer lab session he was teaching; he had requested that a student surrender his phone pursuant to school policy enacted back then. The student, however, in angry defiance flung a chair at him. Not directly per se as Lee himself further clarified, but sort of "sideways", so it would never actually strike him. The boy subsequently stormed out of the lab. Fast foward to the present day, Lee bumped into this very same ex-student by happenstance on the bus. They chatted, and midway through Lee gently reminded him about the abovementioned incident. The student remarked: "Last time, very naughty." Seems both finally made peace with each other. Marvellous. Earlier in April, the Ministry of Education (MOE) instituted a slew of disciplinary protocols aimed at stamping out what appears to be an escalation of bullying instances amongst students; perhaps it should also give serious thought to remedying student-teacher bullying/intimidation before things flare up big time as they did with regards to the former. |
