I am not allowed to book out of camp to take the 'A' Level examinations

By Ok_Art6215

I enlisted into the army two months ago after sitting for the 'A' Level examinations in 2024. During my Basic Military Training (BMT) phase, I informed my officer commanding (OC) of my intention to retake the 'A' Levels this year; thereupon he promised to assign me a more flexible vocation so I could enjoy greater leeway preparing for them. When BMT concluded and I received my posting orders, this same OC subsequently changed tack, insisting I would NOT be allowed to leave camp during the upcoming 'A' Level examination period lest my training schedule clashes with the examination dates. I feel totally lost, not least betrayed. Why does my obligation as a Singaporean male supersede my future? Why should I put my body on the line when my future gets robbed from me right under my nose?

I have written to my member of parliament (MP), however till date there has been no response. Right now, I can only pray that he would sooner than later get wind of things and help ameliorate my plight before November arrives.
