Teenage son of wife's ex-colleague committed suicide

By MoeLanYong

Couldn't fall asleep, feeling extremely saddened. Today, my wife's former colleague informed her that her eldest son had passed on.

He took his own life by overdosing on medication. Was pronounced dead in the wee hours of this morning. I understand the boy was around 19 years old.

The grieving mother then further requested that my wife spread word about what happened, which honestly confounded me. I am guessing she wanted to make other parents become more aware of their children's mental health but found it unbearably painful to do so personally.

As a father myself, I can't even begin to fathom the enormity of her loss. There were no words. Just tears.

Depression is very real and on the rise amongst our young.

To all youths out there, please seek professional help if you are experiencing depression or contemplating suicide. You can't reason your way out of a mental affliction.

RIP child.
